TAKAO OHKI, MD, PhD
Takao Ohki, MD, PhD is the Chairman of Department of Surgery, Professor and Chief of the Department of Vascular Surgery at Jikei University School of Medicine in Tokyo Japan. He is also the Professor of Vascular Surgery and the Director of International Program of Excellence in Vascular Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.
He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals, and contributed chapters to over 35 books. Dr. Ohki has served on the editorial board of numerous scientific journals including the Journal of Vascular Surgery, Journal of Endovascular Therapy and Annals of Vascular Surgery. He is the Chief Editor for Endovascular Today. He has served as the Chairman or Executive Committee Member of a number of medical symposiums and meetings. Dr Ohki is currently the Chairman of Japan Endovascular Symposium. He is a scientific advisory board member or consultant for 10 medical companies and has founded 4 medical device companies. Dr. Ohki has given over 300 invited and named lectures and performed live case demonstrations in 13 countries around the world. In addition, he has been the principal investigator on a wide variety of studies involving AAA, carotid artery stenting and a number of other clinical studies. He is considered one of the pioneers of endovascular therapy for AAAs and Carotid stenting.
Dr. Ohki has been selected as the "Best Doctor in NY" for during 2004-2006. He was also named as "The Top 100 respected Japanese" by Newsweek Japan.
Dr. Ohki graduated from the Jikei University School of Medicine, in Tokyo in 1987, where he received his MD and PhD. He completed an internship and general surgery residency at the Jikei Hospital, University Hospital in Tokyo, Japan and served as attending vascular surgeon and director of vascular research. He came to Montefiore Medical Center in 1995, where he became the Chief of Endovascular Program in 1998 and Chief of Vascular Surgery in 2002 and Professor of Surgery, Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2005.
